Where To Recycle

How To Recycle

For all of our visiting options, you will need to do some preparation before you head out on your recycling trip. Let’s start with that!

remove lids
Caps off!

Go ahead and pop that top! Having the caps off allows us to compact your containers. Like, really compact them. We can fit up to 4x as much on our trailers after compaction which lowers our greenhouse gas emissions.

Removing caps from your plastic and glass bottles before you visit saves time in line, and the caps can still be recycled if they are brought in separately!

rinse
Hit ’em with a rinse!

You don’t wanna be smelling your last trip to the ‘CAN in your car a week later or walking into milk jug musk everytime you step into your garage. Lucky for you – you don’t have to! A quick rinse can go a long way for getting rid of the stick and stink of old beverage containers.

Just a quick blast of warm water, swish it around, and dump it out. With the cap already off, it will dry out virtually odourless.

flatten
Flatten ’em out!

Bigger doesn’t always mean better, especially when you are trying to fit those five bags of recycling in your car! You can really save on space by flattening your containers before you bag them. Plus – it’s just fun stomping on cans!

When you are flattening, be sure to do it lengthwise and try to keep the label visible so we can tell the size.

sort
It’s a SARCAN sort of thing!

If you could have more of anything, what would it be? Yeah, we said time too. Now you can have more time – by sorting your containers! Sorted orders only take a fraction of the time to count compared to mixed bags. You’ll be in and out in no time!

The trick to sorting is if they look the same, toss them in the same bag. Put clear plastics together; green plastics all in one; thicker, white plastics in the same bag; cartons and boxes can go together; and so on.

findDepot
Locate your local SARCAN!

With 73 depots in the province, you don’t have to look too hard to find your local SARCAN – chances are you are already pretty close to one! Use the yellow bar at the top of every page on this site to find the closest depot to you.

Once you know, head to our Hours & Locations page to find out their address, hours, phone number and other useful details about your SARCAN.
