A Green Career
SARCAN is one of Canada’s leaders in environmental protection and sustainability. When you join the SARCAN team, you are not just starting a new career, you are contributing to a brighter, better, greener Saskatchewan. Each and every year, SARCAN employees help recover useful resources that would otherwise end up in a landfill. You will be helping take those resources and turning them into valuable feedstock for the manufacturing industry, without the need to source and refine natural resources, conserving energy, and reducing our province’s environmental footprint.
Continuous Learning & Professional Development
We provide detailed training and an expansive onboarding package for new employees. Ongoing training and development take place throughout the year and we strongly encourage promoting from within. With over 60 courses in our training catalog ranging from Safety In The Workplace to Digital Literacy, we provide detailed training on all on-the-job aspects, professional development opportunities, as well as personal development courses.
We believe in hiring people of all abilities, but it is much more than that. We believe in supporting and enabling employees to grow through education, professional development, building or expanding individual skill sets, and providing an opportunity for social occasions.
At SARCAN, the work that you will do greatly contributes to environmental protection, keeping Saskatchewan clean and green, and will help build and grow our wonderful communities.
With a career at SARCAN Recycling, you can feel good about the job that you do, and enjoy coming to work every day.
What will you be doing
Welcome to the wonderful world of working at SARCAN!
Even though SARCAN Recycling is a magical place – recovering resources so they can be recycled into new products – the work we do doesn’t just happen by crazy magic. It happens because we are powered by our people!
And our people love the work they do! Sure, it’s hard work that can get a bit busy, and dirty, and loudy, but many of our employees say it’s the best job they’ve ever had. Don’t just take it from us, snap into a SARCAN to see why our employees love it so much!
Outside of keeping you fit, learning important professional and personal skills, and being a part of a tight-knit provincial network of recycling experts who lead the country in excellence, here are some specifics of what your role might entail with your new career at SARCAN Recycling.
SARCAN Depot Recycling Technician
RecTech1
Our ‘Rec Techs’ are the first point of contact for our customers. You will be responsible for greeting customers, making them feel welcome, and answering questions they might have about SARCAN recycling.
RecTech2
You will receive customer containers and accepted items – sorting them by material, accurately counting them, recording the totals for deposit refunds, and possibly operating the Point of Sale system to issue customer payments.
RecTech3
You will help prepare the materials for transport. This could include sorting the materials into shipping containers, being trained to operate compaction equipment to flatten materials, and loading them onto trailers by hand or by using special equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts.
SARCAN Processing Plant Labourer
PPL1
All of the materials collected at the depot are sent to our Processing Plants in Regina and Saskatoon. As a Processing Plant Labourer, you will unload the trailers sent from the depots, help record the weight of the materials, and prepare them for shipping to downstream markets.
PPL2
You’ll help to perform a ‘Quality Assurance’ check on the containers and materials to ensure they are free from contamination and ensure that SARCAN is shipping out only the most pure material streams. This raises the value of our salvage while also lowering the amount of energy required to turn the materials into new things!
PPL3
Just like our Rec Techs, as a Processing Pro you may be trained to use specialized equipment such as hand-operated and powered pallet jacks, forklifts, conveyor belts, baling machines, glass crushers, and more.
SARCAN Depot & Plant Supervisors
Super1
At both our depots and our plants, the Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the overall safe and efficient operation of their facility, ensuring all duties and tasks are completed successfully and customer’s receive excellent service.
Super2
You’ll be a SARCAN superstar, understanding the ins and outs of how our recycling system works and the technologies we use, identifying and prioritizing tasks to efficiently handle the workflow while managing your team of employees, making sure that all policies are followed with proper procedures.
Super3
You’ll lead your team by example, preparing them for success in their roles by guiding them through training courses, ensuring they have an understanding of what is expected of them. You’ll be coach and mentor and help to build high team morale and ensure the well being of your employees.
Of course, this is not a full picture of everything you will be doing in your new career, but a mere glimpse into what happens in the wonderful world of working at SARCAN!
